Princeton Junior School, Pre-school through Grade V. Explore. Discover. Achieve. Where learning is an exciting adventure.

Our Community

PJS is a community of passionate learners and caring citizens. Children have their own sanctuary for exploring the world around them, discovering their inner talents, and achieving their personal goals. Key members of this spirited community are the faculty, staff, parents, trustees and special friends of the School, who invest themselves on a daily basis in the academic and social development of each and every child.

It is a community where, in the words of noted author and child psychologist, Michael Thompson, Ph.D.: “everybody knows your name…where safety and comfort promote learning…where taking risks is encouraged, and where good habits of heart, mind, and character are staples of the day.”

It is a community of thoughtful traditions: the Back to School Picnic, Harvest Bonfire, Thanksgiving and Holiday Assemblies, Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Day, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, the Talent Show and All School Graduation.

Each school tradition underscores the strengths and core values of our community, built on spiral learning, a finely tuned balance between work and play, kindness, trust and respect for one another and the world around us. One observer described PJS as “a miniature United Nations.” Another, an alumna, attested that PJS has given her “an unbreakable core…supporting me, leading me into the world.”

It is a community of inquiring minds, big hearts, and countless dreams – our Princeton Junior School!

“This school is very special to all my family. The academic lessons taught here will last a lifetime.”
PJS Staff and Parent
“One of my favorite times of the day is dismissal…listening to the children laughing or discussing their day...There is just such a warm welcoming feeling that comes over me every time I walk through the front door.”
Parent of Alumna and
Grade I Student
“I loved learning about the rainforest (my favorite animals were the Toucan and the Harpee Eagle) and studying about the life of Benjamin Franklin and then telling the K Class about him.”
Grade II Student
At PJS…“I’ve learned to accept everybody for who they are and not to judge people just for what they like or what they do.”
Grade V Student
“PJS teachers have the time, inclination and encouragement to tailor their approach to each child. The work is demanding, but creative….The strong emphasis on helping children to speak up and present their ideas, the creative aspects and the solid preparation for the next step are hugely important.”
