We describe the School's education process as Spiral Learning, symbolized by our school emblem, the chambered nautilus shell. Students grow outward from their innate resources, building their knowledge and skills from grade to grade as they go from early to late childhood. Throughout the process, the students return again and again to their center to connect the fundamentals of earlier learning with the discoveries of the present day. Confidence is gained by the use of their inner resources in combination with their developing skills. This confidence, as much as intelligence and talent, will contribute to academic success. Spiral Learning functions best in a nurturing community.
Children need the security of loving relationships in order to take the risks that new growth requires. In such an environment students build from the ground up, pull knowledge out of raw materials, use creative energy from play, ask questions, and solve problems collaboratively. These elements of Spiral Learning are integral to the educational experience at Princeton Junior School.
